Our mission at Instawork is to create economic opportunities for local businesses and professionals, globally. In order to achieve that mission, we have built a team composed of talented and hard-working individuals who are passionate about connecting skilled hourly professionals with local businesses who need their services.

Our Employee Spotlight series takes the opportunity to highlight members of our team and to give a glimpse into our culture and what it’s like to work at Instawork. To highlight the diversity of our team, we’ve asked Utkarsh Bansal, Senior Software Engineer, to share more about his experience working at Instawork.

What do you do at Instawork and how long have you been with the company?

I’m a senior software engineer on the Platform team and have been a part of Instawork for over five years.

In short, my job is to make sure the platform keeps running smoothly and is ready for all the challenges that might come up as our marketplace keeps growing.

Along with my team, I manage all of the infrastructure running our applications. We own and maintain a lot of the core shared services and we experiment with new technologies that help the broader engineering team deliver better products and services to our Partners and Professionals.

What initially attracted you to Instawork?

Instawork hit the sweet spot of being a small, early stage startup along with having some very talented, yet humble people. I saw a lot of potential for personal growth and felt the people that I talked to as part of my interviews were the people I wanted to learn from.

The ability to grow personally while creating economic opportunities for our users was the cherry on the cake.

What's your favorite part of your job?

The ownership and the ability to make sweeping improvements across systems. A lot of challenges come with having a relatively smaller team, but at the same time it opens up a lot of opportunities to grow quickly as well. The culture in the engineering team is supportive and at the same time will continue to push and challenge you as an individual.

What is one piece of “work from home” equipment you couldn’t live without?

My external monitor is undoubtedly the most important piece of equipment. Easier on the eyes and saves my back from a lot of trouble. I can’t imagine ever working without it!

What's the most important thing you've learned since starting at Instawork?

The value of building nimble teams and being open-minded. Life at a startup is a roller coaster ride. You can never predict the future. Having a flexible, fluid, and adaptable team is pivotal to the survival and ultimately the success of the company.

In 10 words or less, how would you describe the culture at Instawork?

High growth, open-minded and mission-driven.
