Employee Spotlight: Alex Farias, Community Operations Manager

Our mission at Instawork is to create economic opportunities for local businesses and professionals, globally. In order to achieve that mission, we have built a team composed of talented and hard-working individuals who are passionate about connecting skilled hourly professionals with local businesses who need their services.

Our Employee Spotlight series takes the opportunity to highlight members of our team and to give a glimpse into our culture and what it’s like to work at Instawork. To highlight the diversity of our team, we’ve asked Alex Farias, Community Operations Manager, to share more about his experience working at Instawork.

What do you do at Instawork and how long have you been with the company?

I am the Operations Manager for Community Operations and have been here since March of 2022, so a little less than a year. I currently oversee our support team in the U.S., Canada and Costa Rica that handles tickets and inquiries from our Pros.

I also manage our Outreach Team that reaches out to Pros to gain some insight on their experiences with Instawork from shifts to support on the app. We use these insights to help understand both what we are doing right and what we can do better to improve the overall experience.

What initially attracted you to Instawork?

To find a company that has created something to allow people the flexibility to work shifts on their schedule and make extra money for themselves and their families is amazing. Knowing that Instawork was starting to expand and to have the chance to be part of that was exciting.

What's your favorite part of your job?

The first part is finding ways to help our Pros resolve their issues and help them be successful in the app.

The second part is working with our team of specialists who support our Pros before, after, and during their respective shifts. I love helping them by improving their responses to our Pros to ensure we address their issues and making sure we're providing a resolution while using empathy towards every situation. The goal is to have every specialist be able to put themselves in our Pros shoes and understand what they are going through when they reach out.

What is one piece of “work from home” equipment you couldn’t live without?

That would be my second monitor. Being able to see the multiple applications we work with on two different screens makes my job easier when I need to investigate issues or help our Pros.

What's the most important thing you've learned since starting at Instawork?

That change is constant and the need to adapt in our ever-changing environment. While at times it can be a bit overwhelming, I see it as a challenge to constantly adapt and grow from these changes.

In 10 words or less, how would you describe the culture at Instawork?

The culture here is all about community, teamwork, hard work and dedication.
