Dr. Daniel Altman joins Instawork as Chief Economist

Today, we’re announcing our first Chief Economist at Instawork, Daniel Altman, PhD, who will lead a new economic research division to uncover critical trends and insights that only Instawork can provide.

As Chief Economist, Dan will take a deep look into topics like local economic activity, wage growth, and hourly workers’ career paths. Given the transformation of the labor market over the last couple of years, as well as Instawork’s rapid growth, he couldn’t be joining us at a more exciting time.

After earning his BA, MA, and PhD in economics at Harvard, Dan wrote economics commentary for publications like The Economist and The New York Times, served as a strategic advisor and thought leadership expert for numerous organizations (including the British government), and spent many years as a faculty member at New York University. With expertise in researching labor trends, the challenges facing the hourly workforce, and the macroeconomy, Dan is a great fit for this role.

"Hourly workers make up more than half of the American workforce, yet they have often been overlooked in analyses of the macroeconomy and the future of work,” he said. "Instawork has a tremendous amount of up-to-the-minute data on the hourly labor market, and we can use these data to deepen our understanding of short-term fluctuations and long-term trends in wages, working conditions, sentiment, and more."
