Our Employee Spotlight series takes the opportunity to highlight members of our team and to give a glimpse into our culture and what it’s like to work at Instawork. To highlight the diversity of our team, we’ve asked Shamit Patel, Vice President of Product, to share more about his experience working at Instawork.
What do you do at Instawork and how long have you been with the company?
I have been with Instawork since early 2021, leading the product and design teams to ensure the best mobile/web application experiences for our Professionals, Partners, and internal users.
What initially attracted you to Instawork?
It almost sounds like too much of a coincidence, but two of my mentors asked me to talk to Sumir (our CEO and Co-founder), when I mentioned I was starting to look at new opportunities.
When I met with Sumir, we discussed the company values and why he chose to start Instawork. It became clear pretty quickly that my personal values were inline with Sumir’s. I was also excited about Instawork’s mission and the impact we could have in creating economic opportunities for both our Partners and Pros.
What's your favorite part of your job?
I get to work with exceptional people who are humble, smart, hard-working, and are always looking to learn. We have developed some great product features and have already seen the impact they have on our users’ experience.
What is one piece of “work from home” equipment you couldn’t live without?
My white board, which I use for brainstorming.
What's the most important thing you've learned since starting at Instawork?
“Intellectual honesty” is a term that has come up every now and then that asks you to think about how you can really introspect to find the root cause of a problem. Everyone needs to look in the mirror on occasion and reflect to successfully find a solution to the problem ahead of you.
In 10 words or less, how would you describe the culture at Instawork?
Focused, empathic, hard-working, data-driven, resourceful, and smart.
