Employee Spotlight: Kenneth Luu, Director of Business Operations

Our mission at Instawork is to create economic opportunities for local businesses and professionals, globally. In order to achieve that mission, we have built a team composed of talented and hard-working individuals who are passionate about connecting skilled hourly professionals with local businesses who need their services.

Our Employee Spotlight series takes the opportunity to highlight members of our team and to give a glimpse into our culture and what it’s like to work at Instawork. To highlight the diversity of our team, we’ve asked Kenneth Luu, Director of Business Operations, to share more about his experience working at Instawork.

What do you do at Instawork and how long have you been with the company?

I’ve now been at Instawork for 3 years, starting back in January 2019. In the past few years at Instawork, I’ve worn many hats across the organization which has led me to my current role leading business operations. We’re the connective tissue of Instawork, spanning supporting strategic initiatives to providing analytics & decision support to leading strategic planning across the organization.

What initially attracted you to Instawork?

There were three gravitational pulls that attracted me to Instawork - the mission, the team, and the opportunity to build. This was a unique opportunity for me to build something special toward a mission that I cared about with an amazing team that I could not only see myself working alongside, but also learning an immense amount from as well.

What's your favorite part of your job?

Seeing the impact of our work. It’s always a special moment when we’re able to reflect on the meaningful differences that we are able to make in the lives of our Partners and Professionals.

What is one piece of “work from home” equipment you couldn’t live without?

My pup! Peppers is always pawing at me for belly rubs and walks. He helps me break up the day when I’m working from home.

What's the most important thing you've learned since starting at Instawork?

When facing new challenges or adversity, it’s always important to remind yourself that “constraint breeds creativity.” It’s easy to try to fit everything within the boxes or frameworks that we may have used in prior experiences (and often, those heuristics may not fit as nicely as we’d hope). But we have to remember that these are opportunities to test new ideas and develop a new paradigm.

In 10 words or less, how would you describe the culture at Instawork?

Mission-driven organization where everyone wants to see each other succeed.
