Employee Spotlight: Juliette Caban, Strategic Communications Intern

Our mission at Instawork is to create economic opportunities for local businesses and professionals, globally. In order to achieve that mission, we have built a team composed of talented and hard-working individuals who are passionate about connecting skilled hourly professionals with local businesses who need their services.

Our Employee Spotlight series takes the opportunity to highlight members of our team and to give a glimpse into our culture and what it’s like to work at Instawork. To highlight the diversity of our team, we’ve asked Juliette Caban, Strategic Communications Intern, to share more about her experience working at Instawork.

What do you do at Instawork and how long have you been with the company?

I’m a strategic communications intern and joined Instawork at the beginning of June 2022. We ensure the organization’s messages reach businesses and professionals while accurately reflecting our mission to create local economic opportunities and build trust in our community through empathy.

My role involves supporting the team’s efforts to get our message out there accurately and efficiently. For example, some of my contributions include building local and national press lists for outreach, researching media opportunities to strengthen or attract partnerships, and talking directly to Pros about the amazing ways Instawork has helped them.

What initially attracted you to Instawork?

Making a difference has always been my biggest motivation. Flexible work allows people to take control without sacrificing financial stability, which for many hourly workers is not traditionally a viable option. It also gives people the opportunity to adjust work to their lives, and not the other way around.

Having the ability to make meaningful contributions by increasing awareness of this accessible economic opportunity while exploring my academic interests was too good to pass up.

What's your favorite part of your job?

Highlighting the positive impact Instawork has on Pros lives by amplifying their unique experiences through media and testimonials is my favorite part. It serves as a reminder that flexible work is valuable to real people, each with their own story.

Recently, I talked with a Pro that has more than 20 years of experience in the service industry, but lost their passion for cooking during the pandemic. They felt undervalued and overworked, which led them to promise themselves they wouldn’t step foot in another kitchen until they got fair compensation. Instawork not only helped them earn higher wages, but also helped them rediscover their passion and love for cooking. These inspiring stories are very rewarding and highlight our mission’s impact.

What is one piece of “work from home” equipment you couldn’t live without?

My headphones, no doubt! I would not be able to work from home without them since they help block out the outside world.

What's the most important thing you've learned since starting at Instawork?

Apart from understanding how to navigate essential public relations tools, learning how to get over the hesitation to ask questions and voice observations has been my biggest takeaway from this experience.

In 10 words or less, how would you describe the culture at Instawork?

Goal-driven, collaborative, dynamic and supportive!
